Standing up in Parliament to Avert a Catastrophic No Deal Brexit
In a piece in the Western Mail I reiterated my stance on Brexit. A catastrophic No Deal Brexit means job losses, economic turbulence and shortages of essential medicines.

That's why I am willing to work across the House this Autumn in order to stand up to this Government and Boris Johnson's damaging Brexit fantasy.

The only democratic way out of the current Brexit impasse is to put it back to the people for a public vote. I will be your voice for Remain in any future vote.

Cardiff MPs Write to Prime Minister
As the four MPs representing Cardiff, we've replied jointly to Johnson's letter to us after his decision to prorogue Parliament earlier this week:
Church House Declaration
I was pleased to sign the Church House Declaration along with 160 cross party MPs. The declaration aimed to stop Boris Johnson from shutting down Parliament to force through a No Deal Brexit this Autumn. This highlighted the cross-party outrage at Boris Johnson's reckless decision.

We cannot allow the Prime Minister to subvert our democracy to force through a Brexit outcome that has no democratic mandate.
Allied Bakeries Factory Closure Confirmed
I am deeply saddened to hear that Allied Bakeries have decided to close their bakery production in Cardiff North.

This is a further blow to local families in the area.

I will continue to work with the workers' representative, Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU), to see what more can be done to protect the livelihoods of over 170 employees affected by this.

If you are affected by this, please get in touch with my office at: [email protected]

Summer Fitness and Wellbeing Club
It was brilliant to help provide a free summer gymnastics club alongside Cardiff North Gymnastics at Rhiwbina Memorial Hall over the summer. The club provided nearly 200 children with free access to fitness and gymnastics sessions over the summer.

Physical activity plays a key role in building and maintaining better mental and emotional health and wellbeing. It was therefore great to see such a high turnout!

A big thank you to all of the children who came along, I hope they all enjoyed it.

Cardiff North Gymnastics Club will be back with more gymnastics classes this Autumn, taking place across Cardiff North. To enquire about booking, please get in touch at: [email protected] - Tel: 07903728264

Urging Action on Plastics, Packaging and Waste

I have written to the new DEFRA Secretary, calling on her to take definitive action on the issue of single-use plastics, packaging and waste.

I believe that my Plastics and Packaging Bill provides a clear path to reforming the waste and recycling industry - placing more responsibility on producers.

More information on this letter can be seen in a Politics Home article that can be read here

Working with Local Businesses to Improve Packaging and Waste Strategy
I'm so proud of the work that local community groups and businesses are doing to reduce the single-use plastics they use.

I spoke to Iechyd Da, who have brought plastic-free, eco-shopping to Whitchurch.

We know that people are trying to make more environmentally conscious decisions regarding their shopping, we now need to recycle the new packaging materials being used. Regular curb-side collections will further incentive people to use alternatives single-use plastics and I  will be discussing how we can improve this in Cardiff North with the local authority.
Demanding Justice for 1950's Women
I've written to the Prime Minister alongside Jackie Jones MEP, UNISON and Back to 60 demanding justice for women born in the 1950's affected by state pension equalisation. The letter was presented to Downing Street earlier this week.

State pension changes have disrupted the lives of millions of women born in the 1950's, the Government should do the right thing and provide women with the restitution they deserve.

You can see my comments in The Mirror here.
Campaigning with Whitchurch and Tongwynlais Council Candidate Marc Palmer

I've been out campaigning with Marc Palmer, Labour candidate for the upcoming Whitchurch and Tongwynlais council by-election, and First Minister Mark Drakeford.

Marc will make a fantastic councillor for Whitchurch and Tongwynlais.

You can keep up to date with all that Marc is doing here.
Labour Announces Animal Welfare Manifesto

This week Labour launched our Animal Welfare Manifesto. It was great to see some excellent proposals, including, enshrining animal sentience into law, taking action to stop puppy smuggling like here in Wales and banning the sale of proceeds of trophy hunting.

You can read the full document here.

Whitchurch Library Defibrillator Presentation
It was a pleasure to join Welsh Hearts in presenting their defibrillator to Whitchurch library alongside Whitchurch and Tongywnlais Council candidate Marc Palmer.

Welsh Hearts are working with communities and businesses in Cardiff North to make them safer with the introduction of these life-saving machines.

A huge thank you to the local businesses who made this happen!
Meeting with Local Business Eco2
It was great to meet with Eco2, Sero Energy and Sero Homes. They are a great local business in Cardiff North and are working hard to transform our communities and help meet our zero carbon targets.

They have some great ideas on how we can ensure the building of environmentally conscious building in the future. I look forward to working with them in the future on this.
I Stand with Asda Workers
I stand in solidarity with Asda workers who have been threatened with the sack unless they sign a punishing new contract.

We must work together to force Asda to come back with a better contract for their workers.

Sign the pledge here to support GMB's campaign.
