Congressman Crenshaw here,
This week, I continued to highlight the success of Houston's world class hospital system in handling the uptick in COVID-19 cases in our community. I also shared the science behind reopening schools, and expressed the need to get our kids back to school safely in the fall.

HOUSTON STRONG
|
Many media pundits and politicians on the left had a clear narrative they were pushing when Houston saw an uptick in COVID-19 cases: our hospital systems were doomed to be overwhelmed. But this was never based in fact.
This irresponsible rhetoric had serious consequences - people were afraid to go to the hospital to seek treatment for whatever medical problems they were having because they believed hospitals would be overflowing with COVID patients. As I have highlighted repeatedly, Houston's world-class hospital system was not in serious danger of being overwhelmed. We have immense hospital capacity and we were able to handle the surge.
National Review confirms this in a recent analysis, saying that "Houston’s collaborative and innovative approach demonstrates a clear model for how hospital systems can handle intense surges — despite the pressure, TMC never surpassed 25 percent of its surge capacity."
We need to focus on facts, not fear.

here's the truth about school reopening
|
The science is overwhelming - returning kids to schools safely in the fall should be a top priority for policy makers. School closures have severe consequences for our kids and parents - students aren't learning as much from home and parents are having difficulty juggling homeschooling and returning to work.
That is why we need to listen to experts like the American Academy of Pediatrics, who tell us that we should be doing everything in our power to return kids to school safely. We can do this with common sense precautions and without fear that children are in serious danger from COVID-19.

perspectives from the front lines of covid-19 IN HOUSTON
|
On a special episode of my "Hold These Truths" podcast, I was joined by a Houston doctor who is treating patients on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Reynolds Delgado, III, is a cardiologist specializing in heart failure and heart transplantation at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center/Texas Heart Institute. During our conversation, Dr. Delgado provided facts about what doctors like himself are experiencing as they deal with the pandemic in our community.
This is a must listen. Click here to check out the podcast.
