Joe Biden Selects California Senator Kamala Harris as His Running Mate

By: Zachary Mettler

Joe Biden has selected California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate in the 2020 presidential contest.

Announcing the pick on Tuesday afternoon, Biden wrote on Twitter, “I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate. Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau [Biden’s son]. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.”

Responding to Biden’s selection of her, Sen. Harris wrote on Twitter, “@JoeBiden can unify the American people because he’s spent his life fighting for us. And as president, he’ll build an America that lives up to our ideals. I’m honored to join him as our party’s nominee for vice president and do what it takes to make him our Commander-in-Chief.”

Sen. Harris ran for the Democrat presidential nomination in 2020 but dropped out on December 3, 2019, prior to receiving a single primary vote, due to a lack of funds.

The U.S. Hardest Hit by COVID? Media Continues to Miss the Bigger Picture on the Coronavirus Pandemic

A recent Associated Press article stated that the way the coronavirus pandemic has been handled in the United States has “astonished and alarmed” Europe. But is the media missing the bigger picture?

The world’s most recent global pandemic has disrupted the global economy and shown how unprepared scientists and governments were to handle a quick spreading disease on a global scale. In the beginning, attention was first paid to China, the epicenter, before turning to Italy where the disease quickly spread and seemed to wipe out entire villages. When it reached the United States, more specifically New York, the number of infections quickly increased and now the United States has the highest number of cases and deaths.

Facebook Censors 7 Million COVID Posts in Second Quarter – but Removes Fewer Posts about Child Abuse and Suicide

Facebook released its “Community Standards Enforcement Report” and said the company had censored 7 million COVID-19 posts and placed a misinformation warning label on 98 million other COVID-related posts from April through June 2020.

At the same time, fewer posts related to the categories of suicide and self-injury, or child nudity and sexual exploitation, were taken down compared with the first quarter. The company relies more heavily on content reviewers for these two categories, and as workers were kept at home due to COVID lockdowns, fewer people were available to review this graphic content.

The company estimates that less than 0.05% of views were of content that violated their standards for either of these categories.
