The Unz Review Digest - August 14, 2020

The gigantic explosion in the port area of Beirut dominated our most popular featured articles this last week, capturing three of the top spots, including the first two.

Pepe Escobar focused upon who would most benefit from the terrible destruction, and noted that Israel had repeatedly warned it planned to attack such facilities as part of its actions against the Hezbollah military forces and attempts to pressure the Lebanese government, while opponents of the Chinese Belt and Road initiative considered the port as an important local node in that project.  A somewhat similar analysis was provided by Taxi, a local Lebanese analyst, who also pointed the likely finger of blame at Israel and the anti-Chinese leadership of the US.  The sixth place piece by former CIA Officer Philip Giraldi took a somewhat more cautious position, merely outlining the various scenarios and noting Israel’s possible involvement, while not dismissing the official narrative that the blast was merely an accident.

On a different note, our third most popular piece, coming up very fast after just a couple of days, was Paul Kersey’s focus on the horrifying case of a young five-year-old white child, shot and killed execution-style for seemingly no reason by a local black neighbor.  If the races had been reversed, this story would dominate the national and international headlines for weeks, but instead it has been almost entirely ignored by our mainstream media, receiving virtually no coverage at all, despite the strong possibility that it was connected with the endless media-demonization of whites as the victimizers of blacks.

Placing fourth was C.J. Hopkins’ discussion of the bizarre “new normal” accepted by our society, with the media hailing the sacrifice of our freedoms on the altar of Covid-19 control measures.

And rounding out our most popular pieces was my own column on the clear evidence that contrary to the recent sworn Congressional testimony of its CEO, Google is manipulating its search results for political and ideological reasons, with its complete purge of our website being merely one example.  For example, the remarkable expose of Sen. John McCain’s role in the POW Cover-Up by Sydney Schanberg, one of America’s most renowned mainstream journalists, ranks at or near the top of search results of Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Yandex, but is nowhere to be found on Google.

Making the case that the explosion resulted from an attack
The narrative that the Beirut explosion was an exclusive consequence of negligence and corruption by the current Lebanese government is now set in stone, at least in the Atlanticist sphere. And yet, digging deeper, we find that negligence and corruption may have been fully exploited, via sabotage, to engineer it. Lebanon is prime John Le... Read More
Wherever there is mass murder in the Middle East, there you find the Israeli fingerprint. And it was always forever thus. Time and time again, since 1948, Israel has demonstrated that it solves all its regional problems with violent terroristic solutions that change the political and geostrategic equation in its favor. Time and time again,... Read More
PK NOTE: Their Lives Matter Too. It’s a book you must pick up. Names you’ve never encountered, stories you’ve never read about, all for one, unmentionable reason: black on white murder. We were never supposed to notice what’s happening. We were never supposed to catalogue the names and tell their stories. But we did. But... Read More
They’re here! No, not the pod people from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. We’re not being colonized by giant alien fruit. I’m afraid it is a little more serious than that. People’s minds are being taken over by a much more destructive and less otherworldly force … a force that transforms them overnight into aggressively... Read More
Back in early May Google took the remarkable step of deranking our entire website, placing our many thousands of content pages near the absolute bottom of its search results, where almost no one would ever see them. If a user included the keyword "unz" in a search string, our pages would still come up, but... Read More
Was it an accident or a warning?

The Establishment explanation for what occurred in Beirut’s port on August 5th is that the horrific series of explosions that killed hundreds, injured thousands and left hundreds of thousands homeless was a terrible accident that came about due to a multi-faceted failure by Lebanon’s corrupt and incompetent government. Or at least that is the prevalent... Read More
Some of my longtime readers might have noticed that I rarely (if ever!) wrote about Belarus or President Lukashenko. As always with the blog, there is a reason for why I do mention something and no less a reason why I do not mention something. In the case of Belarus or Lukashenko, my reason for... Read More
Do genes account for 50—70% of racial differences in intelligence?
Lasker-path-analysis-as-frontispiece.png
It is perfectly reasonable for critics to ask, every so often, if there is any work showing that genes make a contribution to intellectual differences between genetic groups. I assume it can be accepted that genes make a difference within a genetic group, and the animus arises only when genetic groups are being compared. One... Read More
Alan Dershowitz, in Guilt by Accusation, writes, referring to accusations concerning his alleged sexual misconduct, “Evidence was no longer important. It was the accusation that mattered, as well as the identities of the accuser and accused. The presumption shifted from innocence to guilt. For a man to call a false accuser a liar became a... Pandemic, lockdowns, riots, disappeared jobs, collapsed businesses, empty fridges, closed borders, weird explosions and, just now, Beirutshima, so 2020 is already a horror show, but wait, it’s actually a mousy prelude to the endlessly crashing cymbals, just ahead. Many more ambulances will howl down streets. The empire will only exit with a bang. Meanwhile, all... Read More
First, let's dispel the combined notion that China spies on everyone and the US spies on no one. There is so much public evidence to destroy both these assertions that I won't bother repeating them here. I will however remind readers that a few years ago China more or less banned Windows 8 from the... Read More
The cries for justice over the deaths of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown were hoaxes. Both men were criminals who died because they were dumb enough to assault men with guns. The same is true of Ahmaud Arbery. They got justice. Jussie Smollet and Bubba Wallace were hoaxers painting themselves as victims of hate crimes.... Read More
In the late 1950s and early 1960s there was an American TV series called "The Naked City", set in NYC. The opening for each episode began with the intoned words, "There are eight million stories in the Naked City. This is one of them." Well, there are probably 8 million American spy stories that have... Read More

Black militia at Stone Mountain. Cocky, heavily armed, outgunning the police. White militias have similar firepower. A fight is entirely possible. In downtown America. Hoo-boy. Today, God save the Queen, the country is in the hands of pathologically aggressive Cold War leftovers, in particular Mr. Genghis Pompeo. In light of his desire to get America into a war with Iran, plus the acrid whiff of desperation wafting from the White House, plus increased provocations against Iran, one may wonder about... Paolo Roberto, 50, a native of Sweden (his father was an Italian), had made a name for himself: a well-known boxer, he had his own TV show, he appeared in many programmes; Swedish girls loved to dance with him in Dancing with the Stars; he also had a profitable business: he imported Italian olive oil... Senator Kamala Harris could become president of the United States. Joe Biden, who enjoys wide leads in national polls and battleground-state polls, may well win the election. Many people on both Left and Right, including the socialists at Jacobin and Republican congressman Matt Gaetz, suspect Mr. Biden is mentally declining. When a black reporter asked... Read More
Night in Novogrudok, Belarus (2017) by Pavel Gamburg. Even though we tend to take it as a given, it isn't exactly obvious why Belarus should be so much more "Russophile" than the Ukraine. The lands of White Russia were "regathered" into the Russian Empire well more than a century after Left-Bank Ukraine (the lands east... Read More
While the Covid-19 epidemic continues to drag on in the United States, it's largely over in Sweden where fatalities have dropped to no more than 2 deaths per day for the last week.
