Friend,
Welcome to the Friday Five! Every Friday we share our top five
articles, stories, and quotes for you to read and share with your
friends and church families.
We
would be very grateful if you could make a donation of $100, $50, $25,
or $10 today towards our work producing these Friday Fives and
fighting for your values on the public square!
1. NC VALUES: We endorse Fred Von Canon
for NC House District 35. Watch our latest episode of the voice to
learn why.
Join us every week for another episode of “The NC Values Voice”, a
weekly 30-minute interview by Executive Director, Tami Fitzgerald,
with a special guest. The NC Values Voice is aired on Facebook Live
every Wednesday night at 7:30pm. Our goal is to inform and motivate
our statewide coalition members with current, relevant
information.
On this week's program, we welcomed Fred Von Canon, a common sense
conservative running for the competitive NC House District 35. Watch
the interview to learn why he received an NC Values Coalition
endorsement.

2. SENATOR BERGER: Whether 11259
Students Can Go Back to Their School is Up to a Judge
"Far-left NCAE asking a judge to strip 11,259 kids of
Opportunity Scholarship funding weeks before class begins. Up to a
judge whether low-income kids can attend private
school."
3. RED STATE: Public School Teachers
Openly Fear Parents Overhearing the Leftist Brainwashing During
Virtual Classroom Sessions
"Leftist teachers aren’t happy that you can now hear them
programming your child with social justice ideology.
The left owns our public education system due to years of
infiltration, coercion, and strong-arming. They’ve apparently become
so comfortable and cocky in the position that they’re now openly
complaining that you’ll now be able to hear their attempts at
brainwashing your children.
Apparently, you being involved in what your child learns bothers
these teachers."
4. NORTH STATE JOURNAL: Human
Coalition requests Gov. Cooper shut down investigate Planned
Parenthood clinics
"Rev. Dean Nelson, an African American minister and executive
director for Human Coalition Action, has sent a letter to Gov. Roy
Cooper asking him to fight racism and temporarily close all nine
Planned Parenthood clinics in the state.
'Governor Cooper, it’s time to reckon with the white supremacist
legacy and racist reality of Planned Parenthood,' writes Nelson in the
July 28 letter. 'We ask you to close the nine Planned Parenthood
clinics in your state while an official investigation of its practices
to determine if they target Black women is implemented.'
Nelson says Human Coalition has worked to raise awareness in
North Carolina of the 'disproportionate impact abortion has on African
American communities.'"
5. THE FEDERALIST: Governors Can’t Use
Coronavirus To Indefinitely Declare A State Of Emergency.
"In a national panic, Americans
permitted executives to take power—to declare states of emergency and
to implement lockdowns—and now those executives won’t give that power
back."
Candidate for NC Governor, Dan Forest, pursued a lawsuit
to challenge Cooper's executive orders, however a judge recently
rejected Forest's demand to block Cooper from shuttering businesses.

“I did my part,” Forest wrote on
Twitter shortly after the judge’s decision. “If y’all want your
freedoms back you’ll have to make your voices heard in November.” Read

WEEKLY PRAYER: FAMILY
LORD, we cry out to you as Father. You are a model of the love,
mercy, and authority of the perfect parent. We thank you for modeling
for us what every parent should strive for, and for creating this
wonderful institution called family.
LORD, we thank you for creating us with a basic nature designed
to not be alone. You made us to desire the intimacy of relationships,
and it is here where we experience joys indescribable: the joys of
marriage, the joys of having children; the joys of seeing our children
have children. What a blessing and mercy you gave us in the family! In
it we find our first teachers, our first guardians, and our first
authorities.
LORD, we recognize how deeply you love your children, and how
deeply it pains you when they go astray. Alongside our adoration and
thanksgiving, we pray in confession--as individuals and as members of
larger communities--over any sins we may have committed that undermine
your beloved institution. Forgive us when we endanger your institution
through selfishness and arrogance. Forgive our communities and nation
for attempting to redefine some of the most basic and deepest parts of
being human--being made male and female, having lifelong marriage vows
and responsibilities, and having parental rights over educating one's
children.
"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved,
compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13
bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another,
forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must
forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything
together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your
hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing
one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do,
in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God the Father through him." (Colossians 3:12-17)
Amen
