Dear John,
Friday is May Day, an international celebration of workers and a remembrance of the labor leaders who fought and sacrificed to build a better future. In the U.S., immigrant families have been part of the fight for workers’ rights since the beginning. Like all workers, immigrants want a future where their work is recognized with fair pay, their children can get the food and care they need to grow and learn, and their families can live in a home of their own. We are proud to stand with the millions in working immigrant families who continue that fight today.

Legislation: LIFT the BAR Act Campaign
Last year, H.R.1 took away eligibility for Medicaid/CHIP, SNAP, Medicare, and ACA/Marketplace programs, affecting an estimated 1.4 million lawfully present immigrants, while providing tax cuts to the nation’s richest individuals and corporations. The LIFT the BAR Act (LTBA) would restore H.R.1’s eligibility cuts, eliminate the 5-year bar, and make other changes to ensure that immigrants can access the programs and services they need. Learn more about the LTBA and see how you can take action on our new campaign page.

New Resource: PIF Executive Branch Tracker in Airtable (Beta)
We have been tracking and sharing federal executive branch actions that impact immigrants’ and their family members’ access to health care, food assistance, housing, and other public benefits since Trump’s inauguration on January 20th, 2025. However, with nearly 100 entries, our googlesheet had become unwieldy.
So, we built a new and improved version using Airtable. The new Executive Branch Tracker (Beta) [[link removed]] allows you to filter and sort actions by agency, most recent actions/updates, category (eligibility limits, privacy concern, adding red tape…), and more. All of our existing materials are there with the default view by the most recent update. Each action has its own “updates and resources” page where you can see its current status and all related updates and resources such as links to comment templates, statements, analyses, news articles, or court cases. For example, see the latest updates and resources [[link removed]] on litigation to block CMS’s sharing of Medicaid data with DHS. We will continue to update it every week. Catch a bug? New Resource: Advocates’ Checklist: Medicaid Immigrant Eligibility Changes
New guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requires states to redetermine eligibility for noncitizens by October 1, 2026. This PIF Checklist [[link removed]] provides suggestions for state advocates to ensure eligible immigrants and their family members stay enrolled, and tips for those losing eligibility. It includes questions for state Medicaid agencies and information to share with people who may be cut off from Medicaid in error and people who will become ineligible for the program.
