** Victory! CLC Wins at Supreme Court to Protect Rhode Island Voters from Unnecessary Witness Requirement ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------

During a pandemic, nobody should have to choose between their health and their right to vote.

In a victory for Rhode Island voters represented by CLC and partners, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected an attempt to reinstate an unnecessary requirement that would’ve forced Rhode Islanders to find two witnesses or a notary public in order to have their mail-in ballots counted.

Forcing voters to find a witness or a notary to certify their ballot is against social distancing guidelines. Nobody should have to put themselves in harm’s way to vote. The U.S. Supreme Court's decision is the right one.

CLC is challenging problematic witness requirements and fighting for other changes to make sure voting is safe and easy during the pandemic, like increasing no-excuse absentee voting ([link removed]) , making sure voters are notified to resolve signature issues with ballots ([link removed]) , and calling on Congress to provide adequate funding ([link removed]) for this year’s election.
