Email from Jamie for Louisiana Well we just swore him in anyway… If the name Calvin Duncan doesn’t ring any bells for you, let me take you up to speed. This man just suffered one of the greatest American political injustices in recent memory. Calvin escaped death row at Louisiana’s Angola prison by being his own lawyer. He then ran to become the clerk of the New Orleans Criminal Court to reform the system that stole nearly 30 years of his life and won. When he won, MAGA was so furious that an exonerated black man took control of this office that they introduced legislation to eliminate his office rather than let him get sworn in But we just made history on the steps of the New Orleans criminal courthouse. Despite the protests and legislative efforts of our MAGA controlled State House, we swore in Calvin Duncan. Calvin and I at his swearing in ceremony. When I watched Calvin's swearing-in ceremony, I could see what is in store for Louisiana this election year. We’ve had enough, and we are on the cusp of taking back our state. Take for instance the contest for Louisiana’s US Senate seat, where Democrats have a once-in-a-generation chance to flip this seat. Trump is trying to unseat incumbent GOP Senator Bill Cassidy and is tearing him apart by bankrolling his MAGA primary challenger, Julia Letlow. So while Cassidy and Letlow duke it out in the mud to see who can best kiss the king's… ring, Democrats in Louisiana are taking advantage of the chaos. We are organized and ready to prove that Louisiana was never a lost cause—just a cause in need of some more champions. Calvin’s one of those champions and I am too. I’m the Democrat running for US Senate in Louisiana. I'm a row crop farmer from rural Tensas Parish farming the same land my great grandfather worked as a sharecropper but now I own the land I farm on. My message of economic populism competes with and defeats the fake populism of MAGA and when I am elected I will be Louisiana's first black statewide elected official since reconstruction. We have always risen above the worst forms of oppression. I can feel the shift in energy as folks are ready to vote for democracy and reject this fascist oligarchy.
