Washington doesn't have a revenue problem. It has a spending problem. And I've had enough.
Our debt surpassed $39 trillion last month. Interest payments alone hit $1.22 trillion last year. That's more than we spend on most major government programs just to service the debt. If we don't act, that number keeps climbing until there's nothing left.
That's why I introduced the Six Penny Plan.
The idea is simple: cut six cents from every dollar the federal government plans to spend each year for five years. That's it. No dramatic overnight eliminations. No targeting one group. Just a 6% annual reduction in projected spending — spread broadly, applied consistently. In just five years, we’d have a balanced budget.
Here's the truth nobody in either party wants to say out loud: both Republicans and Democrats built this debt together. They overspend during good times, overspend during crises, and then shrug and vote for the next trillion-dollar package. I've voted no. I've stood alone on the Senate floor and demanded better. I'll keep doing it, but I need you standing with me.
Critics say my cuts are too steep. I say doing nothing is far more dangerous.
