May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this year we’re reflecting on something we know to be true: Change happens when people come together through the power of community.

At the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we know that suicide doesn’t affect just one life. Its impact sends shockwaves through families, friendships, schools, workplaces, and entire communities.

In fact, it’s been estimated that 135 people are affected by every single life lost to suicide. And just as loss and grief can reach far beyond one moment, so can compassion, connection, and action.

That’s the heart of A Million in May, our month-long campaign to raise $1 million to fund suicide prevention research, education, advocacy, and loss support programs.

This May, we invite you to be part of that effort. Together, we can turn compassion into action. A gift of $135 honors the 135 people touched by every suicide loss and reflects the strength of a community that stands together.

Because the power of community isn’t just about what we give. It’s how we show up. It’s choosing connection, awareness, and hope, and choosing it together.

Throughout the month, you’ll hear stories of impact and see how your support helps AFSP reach people where they are, remind them they’re not alone, and keep our mission fully in motion.

Thank you for being part of this community and for helping make hope possible.

With gratitude and hope,
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
