Folks,

There’s a simple equation driving what’s happening in healthcare right now: Hospital Stability = Payments − Costs

And when payments don’t keep up with costs, something has to give.

Right now, that’s exactly what’s happening across Arkansas—and across the country.

Hospitals are being paid too little while their costs keep rising. That’s a problem.

And here’s what it looks like in real life:

Hospitals scaling back services.

Trauma centers closing.

Rural care shrinking.

In Arkansas, more than 70% of counties no longer have birthing hospitals. That means families are driving farther just to deliver a baby.

I hear it directly from people across this district. As the spouse of an ER physician, I see it up close—crowded emergency rooms, longer wait times, and delayed care.

This didn’t happen overnight.

Medicare reimbursement rates are set at the federal level. Medicaid is shaped by federal policy. And many of the rules that determine how hospitals are paid come directly from Washington. When payments fall behind and costs rise, hospitals are forced to cut vital services.

We can fix it—but it will take action.

We need to reform how hospitals are paid so it reflects the real cost of care.

We need to protect rural hospitals and access to essential services.

We need to strengthen Medicaid and stop policies that make this worse.

Because when a hospital loses services, a community loses stability. And when people can’t get care, everything else starts to break down.

If you believe we need leadership that understands the critical need for local and accessible healthcare, I’m asking you to stand with this campaign. ([link removed])

In faith and service,
