Read stories from abortion activists in Liberia
Community Healthcare Initaitive (CHI) has been providing healthcare and social services to women and children in underserved communities in Liberia since 2014. With SAAF funding they are working to remove legal barriers to abortion and increase access to safe services.
We are pleased to be able to share four interviews from the CHI team in English, Spanish and French - check them out using the links below:

“Women are leading the conversation about our rights."
Naomi Tulay-Solanke, Founder and Director of CHI
"I am very proud of my work. When a young woman comes to my office, her eyes full of tears, feeling hopeless, I am able to tell her that even if she doesn’t have any resources we can provide her with the services she needs free of charge.
Going into a community where once we couldn’t even talk about contraceptives, but now, we’re talking about safe abortion. And you see women leading the conversation about our bodies, our rights, how we should have access to abortion services, that makes me so proud."

"Working for CHI has given me a stronger voice."
Salome Tulay Worship, Program Manager at CHI
"I am passionate about abortion rights due to my own experience. I had an abortion when growing up but due to my Christian faith at the time I always felt guilty about it. However, when I started working with CHI I started to see how much of an issue unsafe abortion is and I started to understand more about it. I also realised that if I had not done that at the time, I would not be where I am today.
I want to see an unrestricted law that allows people to have safe abortions, because in the end it is a health issue and if they don’t have access, they will be forced to go for unsafe methods.
We all should stand up and speak out. We should be prepared to be a little uncomfortable because that’s the only way you can make change."
