Day 1 of Novena to Pope
St. Pius X
Dear Friend,
On the first day of our
Novena, you and I can reflect on Pope St. Pius X’s
warnings against the errors of modernism, what he called the synthesis
of all heresies. His words are exceptionally relevant for us
today.
If you have not already heard, I want to give you the opportunity
to invoke a saint for our times who was powerful against Satan while
on earth and an ardent intercessor for us from his Heavenly abode:
Pope St. Pius X.
You and I look up to the saints for their loyalty to Christ and the
Church despite the circumstances of their time and place…
…But we should never assume it was easier for them to remain loyal
to the Faith than it is for us.
I only needed to reexamine the life of Pope St. Pius X to be
reaffirmed in my conviction that to become holy and to remain loyal to
every teaching of the Catholic Church, we all (including the saints)
have to actively battle the world, the flesh, and the devil.
In its vainglory, the secular world has always tried to pull
Catholics away from the supernatural and push them toward an “updated”
vision of Christianity, one that alarmingly hums to the rhythm of the
spirit of the world; a vision that reinterprets doctrine and makes
Truth subjective.
Persecution for standing up for the Truth has been just as real for
the saints as it is for us when we uphold the Teachings and Traditions
of the Church. But the saints held strong, so we can too!
If it hasn’t already, the day will come for us to be personally
challenged on one or all of the Church’s teachings and we must not
waver.
No matter what fads and fashions have affected the Church in the
past or present, we know this to be true: the Catholic Church is
perennial. She will endure until the end of time.
Which is why it is important to me, especially now, to pray a
special novena to Pope St. Pius X, who recognized the beauty of
Catholic integrity amidst the rapidly declining practices and beliefs
of his time. As Pope, he combated these evils and those trying to
destroy the Church from within and without.
As his feast day approaches, I invite you to join me in a
novena of prayer to Pope St. Pius X to begin today, on August 13th and
end on the Feast of Pope St. Pius X, August 21st.
Join Me for the
Novena!
Over these nine days, our specific intention will be that, like in
the case of this valiant Pope, the spirit of the world will not invade
our and our loved ones’ loyalty to the unchanging doctrines and Truths
of the Catholic Church.
I want to make this novena easy for you to remember each day.
