It’s been a busy few weeks at CREW, uncovering scandal and corruption and pushing for accountability.

We recently released our new report Trump's 2,000 Conflicts of Interest and Counting which chronicles the overwhelming number of conflicts of interest that have resulted from President Trump’s unprecedented refusal to divest from his business interests.

Last week we obtained more than 300 pages of emails from the Department of Veterans Affairs, via a Freedom of Information Act request, that shed new light on a scandal involving three Mar-a-Lago members. The emails show that career VA officials were forced to waste taxpayer resources by working with three of the president’s paying customers on government contracts. None of these three had any specific expertise in the policies they were pushing or any government experience.

Those are just a few recent examples of our work to expose the president’s corruption—here’s more you may have missed:

  • President Trump is pushing holding the next G-7 summit at the Trump National Doral resort in Miami, despite the blatant potential for corruption and conflict of interest that creates. Earlier this week, he claimed that the Secret Service supports holding the summit at Doral. We sent a FOIA request to the Secret Service for documents supporting that claim—because Americans deserve to know if the government is helping send business to Trump’s struggling resort.
  • More than two months ago, the Office of Special Counsel recommended that Kellyanne Conway be fired for her repeated violations of the Hatch Act. Despite shamelessly continuing to break the law, she’s still working at the White House. We sent OSC a letter outlining several options for ensuring real accountability, including fines or even withholding of salary. Allowing her to use taxpayer resources to campaign, and thus violating the law without consequences, undermines the integrity of our democracy.
  • Interior Secretary David Bernhardt lobbied for the oil and gas industry before he joined the Trump administration, so he was banned from decisions involving his former clients for two years after joining the government. His cooling off period recently ended, and just nine days later, he announced significant rollbacks to the Endangered Species Act—which conveniently benefits many of his former clients. Read more in CREW’s examination of the ethics questions raised by Bernhardt’s recent actions.
  • President Trump left the Trump Organization when he was inaugurated—but it appears that the organization hasn’t named a new president. His sons are supposedly running the business, but they have the same titles they had three years ago. So who’s really running the business? For more about this odd situation, read CREW’s new investigation.

These are just a few of the highlights of CREW’s recent work, which we couldn’t do without your support. You can also stay up to date on our work by following us on Facebook and Twitter, if you don’t already.

Thank you for your support,
