It was just announced that our students will be returning to school on August 24th for only one week of e-learning. Just last week our school board voted 5-2 to have 4 weeks of remote learning and reasses before bringing students on campus. This was after hours of discussion and testimony from Public Health Experts.
We elect our local leaders to make decisions for our community because they KNOW our community. The Hillsborough County School Board is doing its best to consider the safest possible way for students here in the Tampa area to get the highest quality education our schools can provide in the given circumstances. While they weigh the pros and cons of different strategies, Tallahassee is stepping in and pushing the scale towards reopening because Donald Trump thinks it makes him look better.
This should not be a political issue. Reopening is for local School Boards to decide. Tallahassee Republicans forcing them to bend to the whims of the White House won't help our kids stay safe or get a better education.
Our kids and teachers are not pawns. Let our local leaders make these decisions.
