This election cycle, most campaigns host big fundraisers with this number in mind: $2,800. That's the maximum one person can contribute to a primary campaign.
In those rooms, the focus is on getting a few wealthy donors to shell out as much as they can.
But our campaign is a movement, and we're thinking differently. We're thinking about $28. That was our average contribution in Q2, and it added up to $19.1 million.
How does $28 compete with $2,800? Well, it works when over 300,000 people donate for the first time. That's exactly what happened in Q2, and that's how we need to keep building this movement.
We're so grateful that so many people have invested in this campaign for the first time. It's a powerfully important sign of momentum. We're hoping to show another big share of new donors this quarter, too -- can you chip in for the first time to own a piece of this campaign?

Pundits and reporters will be watching to see if we can keep these numbers up -- trying to judge whether grassroots fundraising works.
And in the next few weeks, we'll look through our budget and make decisions for the rest of 2019. The money we raise now will determine the investments we can make on the ground.
Growing the number of organizers will lead to more town halls, more local events, and more office openings in communities across the country. Investing in grassroots organizing now is how we jumpstart the fight for big, structural change -- and the only way to win.
