My mother almost died giving birth to me. The hospital refused to admit her because she was Black. That was a common reality for Black people in 1946.
She was left unattended on a gurney in the hall until she passed out from the unbearable pain.
Eventually, it became too late for a C-section and one doctor decided to pull me out with forceps. That’s how I came into this world and up until a few years ago, I still had a scar from the forceps above my eye.
I almost didn’t make it — but because I did, I know it’s my duty to fight for a better world. One where everyone has access to health care. One with racial justice. One where Black mothers aren’t three to four times more likely to die from childbirth. One where the Trump administration does not incite violence and fan the flames of racism.
That’s why, today, I’m personally asking you to fight with me. If I’m going to uproot Trump’s despicable agenda, I cannot do it alone. So, can I count on you to chip in $10 today to help us fight for our progressive agenda?
