It is with great sadness that we become aware of the passing of an off duty EHS employee while on vacation in Cape Breton. Paramedic Charlie Dixon, of Whycocomagh, NS, was involved in a single vehicle motor vehicle collision Aug 10th in the Middle River NS area. Our deepest sympathy go out to his family, friends and coworkers.
C'est avec une grande tristesse que nous sommes informé du décès d'un employé d'EHS en congé au Cap-Breton. En décembre 2019, l'Association des Paramédics du Canada a subi la perte soudaine d’un de ses administrateurs. Guillaume Champagne Raymond était président de notre chapitre québécois, la Corporation des paramédics du Québec. Il était un grand homme qui marquait chaque personne qu'il rencontrait. La paramédecine était une grande passion pour Guillaume et il travaillait sans relâche pour amener l’ordre professionnel des paramédics au Québec.
Afin d’honorer la mémoire de Guillaume, une pièce commémorative a été conçue par son ami Derek Cassista. Cette pièce permettra d’amasser des fonds pour la création d’un fonds d'étude pour ses deux jeunes fils.
Les pièces sont vendues au coût de 20 $ chacune, plus 2 $ pour son expédition.

In December of 2019, The Paramedic Association of Canada suffered the sudden loss of one of our Directors. Guillaume Champagne Raymond, president of our Quebec chapter, Corporation des Paramedics de Quebec, was a great man who touched every person he met in a special way. Paramedicine was a strong passion for Guillaume, and he worked tirelessly to bring self regulation to Quebec.
In Guillaume's memory, we are offering a challenge coin, designed by his friend Derek Cassista,to raise money for an Education Fund for his 2 young sons.

The International Union of Operating Engineers local 727, represents paramedics, it and Emergency Medical Care Inc. reached the deal, with the help of an arbitrator, in February. The head of Saskatoon's soon-to-open supervised consumption site says a lack of data on overdoses from the Saskatchewan Health Authority is hindering efforts to save lives and prevent overdoses in the city. Jason Mercredi, executive director of Prairie Harm Reduction, says right now, advocates have to gather the data from agencies like Medavie Health Services West, the Saskatoon Police Service and the Saskatoon Fire Department, to find out how many people are overdosing in the city. Hiring a maintenance worker for the new Barrie-Simcoe Emergency Services Campus caused some controversy at county council's Aug. 11 meeting. “I’m curious as to why we need a maintenance person when Barrie is in charge of the day-to-day operations of this,” Bradford West Gwillimbury Deputy Mayor James Leduc said. “I’m not sure why we have to hire a $70,000 maintenance person for a small area.” READ MORE

On Aug. 5, 2020 at 1:56 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a rollover motor vehicle collision involving a green side by side Off Road Vehicle (ORV) on Grey Road 4, near the West Back Line, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands. The driver was being transported to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries when the person demanded that the ambulance pull over. The driver exited the ambulance and ran off into a nearby field. Toronto paramedics were able to revive a man who lost vital signs after being electrocuted at a west-end building Wednesday afternoon. At 12:28 p.m. Aug. 12, Toronto police responded to a call for an industrial accident at a building at Bloor Street West and Willard Avenue, near Jane Street. READ MORE

Prince George cracked the top five in July when it came to overdose calls. According to the BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), paramedics responded to 128 9-1-1 calls for potential overdoses, more than doubling the city’s average of 52 calls per month. READ MORE

He adds the bell has several stops throughout Ontario. He says the bell recognizes paramedics, dispatchers and others who have lost the battle with PTSD and psychological injuries to suicide, as well as those who have fallen in the line of duty. Some new equipment is on the way for Hastings-Quinte paramedics. The Hastings-Quinte Emergency Services committee approved a motion on Wednesday morning to purchase six new ambulances for next year. Hastings County currently has a replacement schedule for ambulances that sees them require an average of five new vehicles a year. READ MORE
