Lately, we have all been excited about polls across the country that show Democrats on the verge of flipping red Senate seats blue in states like Kansas, North Carolina, and Texas.

But I wanted to take a minute to explain why our race in Illinois is just as important -- and why your support for my re-election campaign is vital in the fight to take back the Senate.

While these competitive races deserve our attention, we can’t grow complacent about defending our Democratic seats. Our opponents are counting on us to lose sight of races like this one in Illinois. In fact, my so-called “independent” opponent wrote himself a $5 million dollar check in an effort to buy a seat in Mitch McConnell’s Senate. And if we don’t stand strong in Illinois and defend this seat -- our math won’t add up in our fight to win a Democratic Senate.

That’s why I am setting a $15,000 fundraising goal -- and I need your help to get there by August 16. Can I count on you to step up and show your support before the deadline?
