GIVE NOW to Protect & Strengthen Social Security!

|
Dear John,
|
Tomorrow we celebrate Social Security's 85th Anniversary! That's 85 years of this cherished program providing millions of Americans a basic income for as long as they live. But Social Security may not be around for our children and grandchildren if enemies of this program succeed in convincing Congress to slash earned benefits in order to reduce soaring deficits and pay for a dramatic expansion of tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires.
As someone who has paid into and is counting on their earned benefits for a secure retirement, I urge you to take a stand in support of Social Security. Please make a Social Security Anniversary Gift of $10 or $5 to help the National Committee protect and strengthen this vital lifeline for millions of Americans and their families.
And make no mistake, Social Security needs protecting — especially from President Trump who just signed an executive order that would cut $333 billion of revenue from retiree benefits. This vicious attack on Social Security makes it clear that the President is willing to sacrifice workers and retirees in order to further his own political agenda. And by bypassing Congress, he's unilaterally imposing a payroll tax cut which will undermine the income and health security of 63 million Americans.
Essentially the President is robbing Social Security of payroll contributions that pay for earned benefits, at a time when these benefits are needed more than ever. What's worse, he's promising to make his payroll tax cut permanent if he gets re-elected!
The only reason the National Committee has been able to defend Social Security from proposed cuts and dangerous privatization schemes is because of generous help from supporters like you. And make no mistake we will fight to stop the President's payroll tax cut executive order with everything we've got!
You know that Social Security guarantees benefits for millions of Americans — and without this critical safety net program, over half of older Americans would fall into poverty. So please help us continue to hold the line on Social Security benefit cuts today! The stakes couldn't be higher for you and your family.
