Dear John,

The

President’s FY27 budget proposal puts critical early childhood programs at risk—threatening the supports families rely on during the most important years of a child’s development.

Released on April 3, the proposal would underfund or eliminate programs that help families access child care, health care and early learning—services that are foundational to strong communities and a thriving economy.

What’s at Stake:
- Head Start: Flat funding, and the elimination of related support (e.g. access to health care, utilities, food, and job training), would result in fewer children served and fewer services for families.
- Home Visiting & Maternal Health: Proposed cuts and eliminations would weaken support for families during pregnancy and early childhood.
- Early Intervention: Continued underfunding and restructuring of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) could limit access to services for infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities. At the same time, proposed eliminations and cuts to programs that support basic needs—like food assistance, home energy and health care—would make it even harder for families to get by.

Congress can change this—but they need to hear from you.

Take Action Now:1. Protect Head Start - Tell Congress that flat funding will reduce access to quality early learning.

2. Protect Maternal Health Supports - Urge lawmakers to reject cuts to maternal and infant health programs, including home visiting.

3. Protect Early Intervention - Call on Congress to increase IDEA funding to meet growing demand.

Whether you are a policymaker, provider, advocate or supporter, your voice matters. Federal investments in early childhood are essential to giving every child a strong start and strengthening our nation’s future.
