Dear friend,

I’m writing to let you know what comes next for the assisted dying Bill - and to ask for your help.

We have achieved a tremendous amount together over the past 18 months. The Bill has been backed by MPs twice and has overwhelming public support. We have won the argument.

Despite the Bill’s strong support and progress through the House of Commons, a small number of opponents in the House of Lords have deliberately used procedure to run down the clock.  Today is the final day of Committee but only seven out of 59 of the bill’s clauses have been debated - meaning it cannot pass in this parliamentary session.

This is deeply frustrating and fundamentally unfair. The Bill has not lost its mandate; it has been denied its moment.

Because of this mandate - which we fought so hard to secure last year - this is not a defeat. It must only be a delay.

Friend, there is still a way through this.

Will you chip in today to help bring back the Bill?

Fund the fight back today →

The Lords can delay a Bill, but they cannot stop it forever. If the Bill returns in the next Parliamentary session and MPs back it again, it can still become law.

We must now move quickly to make that happen - building overwhelming pressure on Parliament to act, and ensuring MPs are able to finish the job they started.

Every week of delay has real human consequences. For dying people, this is not an abstract concept, it is time they do not have.

Can you help us make change happen?

This is a bump in the long road to law change, but I know that, because of you, we are so much nearer its end than its start. A donation from you will help fund the next phase of this campaign, ensuring we are ready to bring the Bill back to the Commons, build public pressure, and secure the change for dying people we have fought so hard for.

We have come too far to let this progress be quietly taken away.

Together, we have already made history. We’ve won in the Commons before; now we must win again and finish the job.

Together, we will change the law.

Best wishes,

Sarah Wootton

P.S. The Bill has the support of MPs and the public. Now we must ensure it gets the time it needs to pass. Please make a gift today to help make that happen.
