Good evening friend,

Firstly, thank you.

With the support of thousands of people like you, together we have been doing
all we can to ensure the assisted dying Bill makes progress in the House of
Lords.

The Bill has overwhelming public support, our petition has now reached more than
100,000 signatures, and it has twice been backed by MPs. With such a clear
mandate and after 200 hours of parliamentary scrutiny, the Bill should now be
ready to become law. But it is being blocked by a tiny number of opponents who refuse to respect the
democratic will of the public and the House of Commons.

After today, there is only one day left to debate the assisted dying Bill in the House of Lords. I want to be clear with you about what that means.

Without an unprecedented intervention by Government, it will be impossible for
the Bill to pass ahead of the King’s Speech, which will reset Parliament’s
agenda in May. That deadline is immovable.

This news is hugely disappointing. But this is not the end of the road for this
Bill or for this campaign. We are not going anywhere, and we know that you too are here to stay.

Parliamentarians need to see us stand together for change. They need to know
that together, we have the courage to continue. That together, we can still change
the law.

Will you join us on Parliament Square on 22 April to stand together for dignity
and choice?

Yes, I'll attend →

The vote for this Bill in the Commons remains decisive. A handful of Lords have
blocked the Bill by talking it out in this session. But while the Lords can
delay, they cannot permanently stop the Bill.

There is a way back, but only if we make it happen. We must come together, once again, to create overwhelming political pressure
for this Bill to return, for the Commons to exert its primacy and for the Bill
to become law. And that starts with a demonstration of the will of the people on
22 April.

Thank you for standing with us. I’ll be in touch soon with more on what happens
next.

With solidarity and determination,

Sadie Kempner
