Pieces of the SAVE Act are being put into place at the state level

Friend,

Last week, we shared how 24 Democratic attorneys general have already been
forced to go to court to fight back against new federal actions on voting.

This didn’t come out of nowhere. Even as the SAVE America Act stalls in
Congress, pieces of it are already being put into place at the state level.

Over the past two years, more than 20 states have started changing their
voting rules. New proof-of-citizenship requirements. Stricter ID laws. Systems
that scan voter rolls looking for supposed non-citizens.

Supporters say this is about security, but the data tells a different story.
Actual cases of non-citizen voting are extremely rare. At the same time, these
systems have mistakenly flagged and even removed eligible voters.

That’s how this happens: A problem that barely exists gets used to justify
changes that make voting harder for real people. And now those same ideas are
being pushed at the federal level.

That’s why attorneys general are stepping in. They’re trying to stop this
before it spreads further and becomes harder to reverse.

At Voting Rights Fund, we support leaders like these AGs and candidates across
the country who are willing to take on these fights.

Because this isn’t just about one lawsuit or one bill, it’s about who has the
power to shape the rules of voting going forward.

If you can, chip in $10 to help us support the candidates who are standing up
and pushing back.

Voting Rights Fund wasn’t created just to defend voting rights — we elect the
leaders who will expand and protect them. Our aim is to keep our operational
costs as low as possible, so a majority of our funds go toward doing the work
that needs to be done. That means building a national bench of lawmakers who
will fight tooth and nail to expand access to the ballot box and protect our
right to vote at every level of government.
