Opioid Donations & a Doctor’s Shame? Thanks to Burdick for Congress’s exclusive research, we now know Dr. Ami Bera took nearly $50,000 in tainted opioid-industry donations. (Full story here.) For the last month, Jeff has called on Bera to donate this same amount to local addiction recovery programs, but Bera has been completely silent. Perhaps his silence is from shame given the greater Sacramento area suffers an opioid-death rate twice the state rate. Or maybe it’s because all of his opioid-related donors are named in the County of Sacramento’s still open lawsuit. Or maybe it’s because he's still taking these donations. Whatever the case, share this message with all you feel should be concerned. You can also register your displeasure by calling Bera’s district office at 916- 635-0505.
Town Hall: Tell Ami in Person Rep. Bera has scheduled at the last minute a town hall meeting at the Florin High School on Tuesday evening. You can RSVP here. Jeff successfully fact-checked Bera at his last town hall, and Tuesday is a great chance to challenge him with the key questions in this race. For example: “You have taken nearly $50,000 from opioid companies. Your opponent Jeff Burdick has called on you to donate an amount equal to this tainted money to local addiction recovery programs. Will you?” “Why are you waffling on impeachment? If you believe Trump committed the high crimes outlined in the Mueller Report, why shouldn’t you put your principles and the U.S. Constitution first?” “You oppose Medicare for All. Your opponent Jeff Burdick supports it. You have taken $1 million in career donations from Big Pharma, health care corporations and the big insurance companies. Jeff has pledged to take no donations from any special interests. Why should we trust you more?"
14 Days ’Til Our Ballot Signature Drive Starts In two weeks, Burdick for Congress begins our very important signature drive to get Jeff on the ballot. About 2,000 signatures will be needed. It’s also a golden opportunity to spread the campaign's voter-first message and demonstrate how serious we are about ending big donor control of our district. You can volunteer to collect signatures wherever you want. At your local grocery store. In your neighborhood (door to door). At your home (house party). Or co-hosting with Jeff a Saturday morning coffee at the park or coffeehouse of your choice. Email your preference to
