Help to get safe track and trace in these vital 10 days.
Dear
John
,
10,234 of you put pressure on your council leaders, and now the government have been forced to admit that their privatised track and trace system isn't working. Their new reforms are trying to make it seem more locally led but not much has changed.
The contracts with private companies are still likely to be renewed on August 23rd which is SHOCKING. We need you to join our Day of Action in person or at home to ramp up the pressure and say loud and clear: Not a penny more to Serco! Give local, public teams the cash!
Take action on Tuesday 18th to keep communities safe ([link removed])
What's the price for Serco's failings looking like? A juicy contract renewal which could mean they make £410 million in total. That's money that could be given to local authorities to call people in their community.
Instead the national call handlers, sometimes hundreds of miles away, will continue to call from unknown numbers. Only later can local, public health teams follow up. And no extra money to local authorities to do the effective door knocking as OpenDemocracy have revealed ([link removed]) . All of this means more delay and more of our community at risk of this awful virus.
That's why we're calling for Matt Hancock to give the £528 million allocated for Serco and Sitel's contract extensions to local authorities and Public Health teams in England instead.
Conservatives and Labour alike have sent him letters after you pushed them to. Now it's time to ramp up the pressure. Will you organise a group of friends locally or take action at home? We don't have much time.
Tell Matt Hancock what you think of Serco next Tuesday ([link removed])
Matt Hancock HAD to do something to make it look like he is implementing safe, public track and trace because of you. Track and trace has always been public and regional in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and it's working - If that's where you live, we REALLY appreciate you emailing Matt Hancock directly here ([link removed]) .
We need you to organise an action next Tuesday, invite friends to join you, and share the word on Facebook ([link removed][%7B%22surface%22%3A%22page%22%2C%22mechanism%22%3A%22main_list%22%2C%22extra_data%22%3A%22%5C%22%5C%22%22%7D]%2C%22has_source%22%3Atrue%7D) . If you can't make it in person, we still need your help to share the demand online. ([link removed])
Local public health teams have the tools and the local knowledge to do this vital work before any second wave this winter. They need the money NOW.
Organise action locally or at home on the Day of Action ([link removed])
Thank you so much for all the action you take for your community. We know that not everyone can take action in person right now. However you can take action is hugely appreciated.
We know that we can win this with you on board.
Cat, Ellen, Pascale, Chris and Alice - the We Own It team
P.S. If you haven't heard, we hit our fundraising target! This means we can expand our team and ramp up the campaign to protect our NHS from trade deals. Thank you so much!
