Dear John,

Whether you're walking, running, jogging, sauntering or doing something in between the PAWS 5K is a great way to save homeless animals. But you need to take one step first: register before August 31 for early bird pricing.

We're planning to gather in person, but if the situation requires, we'll celebrate virtually with an online event. We'll walk and run for their lives no matter what! So stick your dog in that adorable pumpkin costume and say those five magic words – “Wanna go on a walk?” – because the PAWS 5K is almost here!

** Help Us #ClearTheShelters
------------------------------------------------------------

You know what the best kind of shelter is (and no, this isn’t a corny joke)? An empty one! During our virtual Clear the Shelters event from August 23 - 29, we’ll be waiving adoption fees to help some of the cats and dogs that need an extra hand finding their families. Keep an eye out on our website later this month to see the eligible pets!

** Pandemic Puppies & PAWS Chicago
------------------------------------------------------------

Your quarantine cuddle bug. Your cutest coworker. Your very first furry family member. No matter what pets have meant to you throughout this pandemic, it’s undeniable that they’ve taken over as our favorite Stay at Home silver lining. Recently, PAWS Chicago chatted with NBC Nightly News’s Lester Holt ([link removed]) about one positive outcome of the extra time we’ve had at home: the rise in pet adoptions!

** Sit, Stay, and Social Distance with In-Person Training
------------------------------------------------------------

If training from the comfort of home is getting too comfortable, you’ll be happy to know that our Training Center is now offering in-person courses! Training helps keep your pup happy, healthy, and mentally stimulated. Sign you and your pup up for in-person Polite & Playful Puppy classes, Level 1 classes, or our PAWS Puppy Star classes. All classes require a face covering and will maintain six-feet or more distance between all participants.

** How ‘Bout This Weather?
------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome, August! As much as we love Chicago in the summer, what we don’t love is the hot, humid weather that comes along with it. And neither do your pets! High temperatures, especially when stuck in the car, can be dangerous to your furriest best friend. We have all the info you need to help your pet stay cool and safe during one of our state’s hottest months
