Hi John,
It has been a historic week with the announcement of Sen. Kamala Harris as Democratic Presidential hopeful Joe Biden’s vice-presidential pick. As we enter a new era of leadership for women and girls of color, Ms. Foundation is keeping the momentum going with our Pocket Change Instagram live series hosted by our President and CEO Teresa C. Younger.
ICYMI: Last month, Ms. Foundation introduced our new report, Pocket Change, How Women and Girls of Color do More with Less, which we produced in partnership with Strength In Numbers Consulting Group. We found that total philanthropic giving per woman and girl of color was just $5.48 in 2017. For our accompanying Instagram live series, Teresa is in conversation with leaders on how we can ensure that women and girls of color on the frontlines are receiving the support they desperately need.
This week, our guest is the powerful Toni-Michelle Williams, the executive director of Solutions Not Punishments Collaborative (SNaPCo). SNaPCo is a Black trans- and queer-led organization building collective embodied leadership and political power. Since its inception, SNaPCo has consistently been on the frontlines of the Movement for Black Lives and this conversation will delve into its work in alleviating the harm of the legal system in Atlanta, Ga.

WE RECEIVED A $3 MILLION GRANT FROM START SMALL FOUNDATION
This week, the Ms. Foundation for Women received a generous $3 million grant from the Start Small Foundation—led by Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey—to support women and girls of color-led organizations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am deeply gratified by this generous demonstration of trust-based support from Jack Dorsey and the StartSmall Foundation. This is what transformational funding to women and girls of color looks like,” said Teresa C. Younger, President and CEO of the Ms. Foundation. “We are thrilled to be able to move resources even more quickly to a field of leaders and community members who need the help right now.”
The Ms. Foundation has identified strategies that will rapidly increase funding and capacity building for individual women of color leaders and their organizations. We aim to serve as a xxxxxx against the extenuating safety, health, and economic pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic in the most under-resourced regions of the country by safeguarding the survival of organizations that build the power of women and girls.

ON KAMALA HARRIS AS JOE BIDEN’S VP PICK
The Ms. Foundation for Women congratulates Kamala Harris on her partnership with Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden. Her track record as the only Black woman and first South Asian American woman in the U.S. Senate, California’s attorney general, and San Francisco’s district attorney are only the tip of the iceberg in her long list of trailblazing accomplishments as a public servant and leader.
“For over five decades, the Ms. Foundation has been advocating for women-led leadership in order to enact the social changes necessary to afford all women equal access to healthcare, community support, and upward mobility. Kamala Harris’s vice-presidential candidacy is a step in the right direction for women of color’s representation in government, and a historic choice at a time when we need to listen to Black women more than ever.” — Ms. Foundation President and CEO Teresa C. Younger
