Earlier this month, the U.S. Census Bureau announced that census operations will be closing a month earlier than originally planned — making it more difficult to obtain an accurate overall count, particularly of historically undercounted groups, like children, undocumented folks, and those living in poverty.

Our campaign is stepping in to fill this gap by organizing as hard as we can. But we're still lagging behind with less than 50 days to go until census operations close on September 30.

In order to meet our goal for response rates in New York's 16th District, we need to increase our current operations by at least double — which requires us to raise $100,000 by the end of the month. This is so we can pay for field supplies, cover digital ads, print more materials, fund outreach tools like tele-town halls and finance our phone and text banking expenses through the month of September.

Your donation right now is imperative to our success, John. As a state, New York is lagging behind the national response rate for the U.S. Census, and is "most at risk" of falling short. And in our district, 15 out of 23 of our areas are currently behind the completion rates that were reported in the 2010 U.S. Census by up to 11%.

There's a lot of confusion around the census especially now, during a global pandemic in which Trump is attempting to weaponize the census. That's why we need to contact folks directly to talk to them about the importance of taking the census, and to answer any questions they may have, before it's too late — because results of the census are critical to ensuring adequate funding for our schools, housing, and social services.

Our campaign tripled turnout for the primary in this district. We're confident that we can turn people out for the census in record numbers, too — but we can't do it without your support. Will you chip in $5 to our $100,000 Census Fund goal right now?
