Last night, Virginia Democrats secured a major victory at the ballot box—approving new congressional maps that could lead to four new Democratic seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. For those of us in Texas, it was a welcome response to the effort to take away our voices at the ballot box. Thank you, Virginia!
People across the country know that what President Trump instructed Texas to do was the wrong thing to do—and that it could not go unanswered. Our friends in Virginia answered the call last night. Just as our friends in California did before.
And I am proud to say that Congressional Democrats did, too. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries answered the call and he worked with people across the country to fight back. As he has said, House Democrats are prepared to take them on everywhere, all the time. Because this fight isn’t just about lines on a map—it’s about protecting our democracy and ensuring every voice is heard.
What we saw last night: We are fighting back and we are winning.
President Trump and Republicans started this redistricting battle last summer in Texas. And when they did, Texas Democrats sounded the alarm. Our Democratic representatives in the Texas Legislature went from California to New York to let people know what was happening in Texas and why it was so bad. We all worked to get the word out, and people across the country listened.

As I said then, this fight may have started in Texas, but it doesn’t end in Texas. And we need to keep up the fight.
From California to Virginia, Americans are fighting back. And we can’t stop now. That’s why I am supporting my friends in the Texas Legislature in the House Democratic Caucus who have been on the frontline of this fight, and who are fighting for Texans and all Americans every day.
