Dear John,
Two weeks ago, the crew of Artemis II flew around the far side of the Moon and looked back at Earth just as Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders did in 1968. A small, brilliant, fragile planet suspended in the dark.
They took a photo. The world stopped and looked.
From a quarter-million miles away, there are no borders, no arguments about whose economy matters more, no lobbyists for the oil industry, there is just one shared home.
That image helped inspire the first Earth Day in 1970. Fifty-five years later, the stakes are even higher, and so is the contrast in leadership.
While the Trump administration sells off public lands, rolls back clean air and water protections, and hands our natural legacy to the highest bidder, Delaware Democrats are doing the work.
Here in Delaware, that work is real and ongoing.
We’ve protected native ecosystems by restricting invasive species. We’ve expanded community solar, working to lower energy costs for working families while increasing access to clean power. We’ve strengthened Renewable Portfolio Standards to secure our clean energy future. And when a developer proposed a massive diesel-powered data center on our coastline, we enforced the Coastal Zone Act and stopped it.
That’s Democratic governance: protecting our environment while making it more affordable for families to live here.
The contrast couldn’t be clearer. Delaware Republicans have offered no environmental vision and no resistance to a federal agenda dismantling decades of progress. The party of Teddy Roosevelt once treated our natural heritage as a public trust. Today, it treats it as a commodity.
Here in Delaware, the cost of inaction is real. We live at sea level, we see the flooding, we feel the storms. Climate change isn’t abstract; it’s higher insurance, higher energy bills, and higher costs for working families.
The Artemis II crew looked back and saw home. On this Earth Day, that’s what we’re fighting for.
