Montross, VA - This partisan redistricting referendum was never about fairness.
It was about power.
Statement from Congressman Wittman on Yesterday’s Referendum Result
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Montross, VA - This partisan redistricting referendum was never about
fairness. It was about power.
Richmond Democrats pursued a mid-decade power grab to rewrite the rules,
bypass the independent redistricting process Virginia voters approved to take
map-drawing out of politicians’ hands, and redraw congressional maps for
partisan advantage ahead of the 2026 elections.
I have complete confidence that this amendment will be struck down by the
courts because it is unconstitutional. Multiple legal challenges are already
underway, including cases before the Virginia Supreme Court, and the final word
on this issue is far from settled.
As we look ahead to November, I am running for reelection to continue
representing Virginia’s interests because continuity and experience matter,
especially at a time of global instability and rapid change.
I will keep fighting to ensure our communities stay intact, that every
Virginian has a strong, local voice, and that our system of representation is
guided by the Constitution, not political ambition.
