News & Updates
Mass Evictions Set to Begin – Communities of Color to Be Hardest Hit
"The Black Lives Matter movement has reached widespread support, with over two-thirds of U.S. adults supporting it. However, eviction perfectly highlights the systemic racism plaguing our country, and not extending eviction protections will only move our country backward.
"According to the ACLU, 'women of color, and particularly Black women, are especially vulnerable to eviction for many reasons, including staggering pay disparities and wealth gaps.'"
Escaping Domestic Violence During COVID-19
"Since the beginning of the pandemic, advocates have worried about a drop-off in reports to hotlines and to the police, which could mean those in abusive situations don't feel safe to even call for help β€” or that they think a shelter could be worse, given the risk of the virus."
Portraits of Hope: A campaign to change the public's perception of who is homeless
"Six women, who have faced homelessness at different stages of their lives, generously shared their personal stories for a central component to the campaign, a Family Homelessness Documentary and Photo Series."
"'Being a young person in the shelter makes you feel as though you can't be a young person,' said Nyomi, who as the oldest child would take care of her mother and siblings.

ο»Ώ'You can't be a teenager and all the teenagers I know β€” even if their life is bad β€” they can go home and be by themselves in their room. I never had that."
