Have you noticed your energy bills consistently getting higher? You’re not alone. People across the state – and across the country – are struggling with these rising costs too. The data is conclusive: energy bills are rising twice as fast as inflation.
And no, it’s not because you’re using more energy. Utility companies have been hiking consumer rates [[link removed]] with little to no accountability. We spoke with Tom Content and Montre Moore of the Citizens Utility Board of Wisconsin to dig into this.
“The problem,” Tom explained, “is that our regulators have been too deferential to the utilities over the years and not having affordability and customer concerns top of mind. And that needs to change.”

In this new interview, you’ll learn how utilities are responding to increased energy demand from data centers, how new demand often leads utilities to invest in new fossil fuel plants, and how these decisions can impact both your monthly bill and public health.
