Friend,
Despite being a so-called “pro-choice majority," the Congressional House has inserted Hyde Amendment language into the labor HHS spending bill.

The Hyde Amendment is a legislative provision barring the use of federal funds to pay for abortion, and it has been written into federal law every year since 1976. This unjust amendment bans abortion coverage for those on Medicaid or federal insurance. This disproportionately impacts low-income Black and Indigenous people, preventing them from receiving abortion care just as the amendment's namesake Henry Hyde intended.

“The Hyde Amendment was always unjust. At this moment in our nation’s history, this racist abortion coverage ban is downright unacceptable. The Hyde Amendment is an abortion restriction weaponized against poor, young, Black, and Indigenous people and women of color. How can any lawmaker call herself progressive or pro-choice while supporting a policy that forces low-income people into unimaginable struggles just to get the essential abortion care they need?”
