Dear Team,

The full committee met Thursday to debate SC S.1095— a total abortion ban that would criminalize patients, punish anyone who helps them, and strip away what little remains of rape and incest exceptions. [[link removed]]

They couldn't even get through a summary of the bill. There were too many questions. So they're meeting again TOMORROW.

This bill is designed as a national blueprint. If it advances, we'll see versions in statehouse after statehouse. [[link removed]]

The Center is already in the fight. We've submitted testimony and are working closely with state and local advocates to defeat the bill. But sustained legal action takes resources, and we need to be ready to move fast.

If you've been waiting for the right moment to give—this is it. [[link removed]]

In solidarity,

Tyler Kalogeros-Treschuk

🚨 BREAKING NEWS FROM SOUTH CAROLINA 🚨
Team, South Carolina lawmakers are advancing S.1095— a total abortion ban that is even more extreme than earlier proposals. [[link removed]]
The bill cleared subcommittee and is now headed to a full committee hearing TOMORROW, where lawmakers will debate its future. The Center has already submitted testimony opposing this bill and we’re actively monitoring what happens next. Now we need to be ready to fight back and we cannot afford to wait. [[link removed]]
DEFEND ABORTION CARE [[link removed]]
This extremist bill would:
* Criminalize the pregnant person for their abortions
* Classify providing an abortion as a felony, with penalties of up to 20 years in prison
* Criminalize abortion funds and people who help others access abortion care
* Criminalize possessing, mailing, transporting, delivering or otherwise providing medication abortion
* Remove what little remains of exceptions for rape, incest, and fatal fetal anomaly
* Designate FDA-approved abortion medication as controlled substances
* Remove protections for young people’s access to abortions
* Force students to watch an anti-abortion propaganda video called "Meet Baby Olivia" in public schools
This is not just about South Carolina. It's about creating a blueprint for national abortion and birth control bans. This is unacceptable. [[link removed]]
FIGHT BACK [[link removed]]
We're challenging coordinated attacks like this on your health care, but stopping bans like this takes sustained legal action. [[link removed]] Your support powers the work to block these laws before they take hold and spread across the country.
Our ability to fight—and win—depends on people like you who believe in reproductive freedom, dignity, and autonomy. [[link removed]]
