Dear Friend,
Molly was just 2 years old when a PETA fieldworker found her dead . The dog's body, still chained to a post, lay in the shallow hole that she'd
dug in a futile attempt to keep herself cool on a sweltering-hot day.
Her final moments must have been miserable. Desperate for water and some escape
from the relentless summer sun, she died alone, with no one around to offer her
any comfort or relief.
Right now, "backyard dogs" just like Molly are struggling to survive this
summer's extreme heat. We must help as many as we can before it's too late.
Please help prevent another dog from enduring a fate like Molly's. Donate just
$5 or more and you'll help provide a dog with shelter, water, food, and care. Your support today will go even further: Our friends at v-dog will match every gift that we receive with a 5-pound bag
of healthy, vegan dog food.

We quickly set out to have Molly's owners prosecuted after that fieldworker's
horrifying discovery, and last August, a judge found both owners guilty, ordered
them to pay significant fines, and barred these remorseless people from owning,
possessing, residing with, or caring for animals, noting, "Some people just
don't need animals."
By supporting PETA's doghouse program, you'll help our fieldworkers supply
critical relief to lonely, chained dogs. In addition to delivering sturdy
shelter that offers them shade from the unrelenting sun, the team makes regular
follow-up visits to check on their welfare and give them desperately needed
food, medical care, and affection—things that every dog deserves.
You'll also provide an immediate boost to PETA's work to pass anti-tethering
laws that protect dogs from being condemned to a sad life outdoors— the kind of laws that could have saved Molly's life . Powered by supporters like you, we helped secure the passage of a lifesaving
animal protection measure in Virginia that prohibits tethering dogs outside
during extreme heat, freezing temperatures, and severe storms—and now we're
working to get similar laws enacted in other communities as well.
If we don't protect these dogs, who will? Your gift to PETA could help save a dog's life. Please don't wait—even $5 can
help feed one for a week.

Every gift this summer will be MATCHED by our friends at v-dog, who have agreed to donate a 5-pound bag of dog food
for every contribution.
While we can't undo the misery that Molly endured, we must do everything in our
power to make sure no more dogs are condemned to suffer as she did. I hope
you'll join us by making a special gift today.
Kind regards,
Ingrid E. Newkirk
President
