*ABOUT WILDFORE AWARENESS WEEK IN MAINE*
Observed each April, Wildfire Awareness Week (April 19–25, 2026) highlights the critical role of prevention, as most wildfires in Maine are human-caused. See the 2026 proclamation [ [link removed] ] issued by Governor Janet Mills.
The Maine Forest Service (MFS) emphasizes that Forest Rangers are prepared, trained, equipped, and working in close coordination with local fire departments to respond quickly across the state. As part of that readiness, MFS offers hands-on wildfire training opportunities [ [link removed] ] throughout the spring and summer, including basic wildfire courses, pump and power saw trainings, and regional Wildfire Academy sessions.
The public also plays a critical role. Residents are asked to stay aware of the daily fire danger rating [ [link removed] ], use Maine's online burn permit system [ [link removed] ] to safely and legally conduct outdoor burning, and learn and share wildfire preparedness [ [link removed] ].
