Dear John,

More than 160,000 Americans have died; 50 million have lost their jobs. Millions of others are juggling childcare and work, or grappling with cut hours and furloughs. Simply put, this crisis is deepening fast, and families across Oregon and the country can’t wait another day for the Senate and White House to finally agree to much-needed relief.

Now is the time for REAL action -- to establish a national testing and contact tracing plan; support our frontline workers; ensure that voters don’t have to choose between their health and participating in our democracy this November; and strengthen the critical programs and benefits that families have been relying on to put food on the table and keep the lights on.

The House of Representatives passed a comprehensive bill to do all of this and more almost three months ago but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hasn’t let the Senate vote on that bill or any other significant response to the health and economic crisis Americans face.

That’s why yesterday, I teamed up with fellow Oregonians from all across the state -- including Senator Ron Wyden and Representatives Earl Blumenauer and Suzanne Bonamici -- in coming together to send a clear message to Mitch McConnell and the White House: Quit playing politics with people’s health and well-being and get to work.

I’m deeply thankful for the important insights, concerns, and experiences that you and your neighbors have been sharing with me, either by attending a town hall, calling my office, or sending me a message through my website. As we keep fighting this virus, I’m going to keep doing everything I can to work for the solutions that will make a difference and help you weather this storm.

All my best,
Jeff
