Back to School

It is back to school time! Whether your children are excited, nervous or dreading the idea, it’s important that playschool leaders and teachers know how to deal with a bleeding disorder.

Let them know how often your child receives treatment and what days. How does the bleeding disorder affect your child specifically? How do you recognise a potential bleed? These are questions that teachers may have so keep them informed and supply them with the necessary information for planning for the year ahead.

October Conference 2019

Dates: Friday 18th to Sunday 20th October 2019
Venue: Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe

We are looking forward to an informative, fun and busy October Conference.

It will take place over the weekend of Friday 18th to Sunday 20th of October 2019 in the Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe.

Marathon Fundraiser for I.H.S.

We are very grateful to everyone who organises or takes part in fundraisers for the Irish Haemophilia Society every year, your tremendous support for the work of the society is really appreciated.

Fundraising events are ever so important, not only in raising funds but to raise awareness of haemophilia and other bleeding disorders, and there is a big I.H.S. fundraiser on the horizon.

Dylan Ryan is running the Dublin Marathon in October and in doing so he will be raising money for the I.H.S. and awareness of haemophilia. The Dublin Marathon is an annual 26.2-mile (42.2 km) marathon in Dublin, held each year since 1980, this year’s race takes place on Sunday October 27th.

Educational Grants 2019

There is still time for you to get your application in for the 2019 Educational Grants.

The Society offers educational grants each year to people with haemophilia or related bleeding disorders, including a person with carrier status and/or their immediate family members who go on to do a post second level educational course.

The purpose of the grant is to offer financial support to students to assist them with the extra expenses involved with their studies.

** Please note, even if you are eligible to apply for more than one grant, you can only apply for one of them.

You can apply online or you can download the application forms below, and post the completed forms into the office.

The closing date for applications is Friday 27th September, 2019.

Planned Giving

Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person.

If you would like to make a difference to others, please consider signing up to our Planned Giving. Contributions can be made monthly, even €10 a month can make a difference or maybe you would prefer to make an annual contribution. The choice is yours, how much and when is totally up to you, and you can cease your contributions whenever you want.

This ongoing support for the work of the I.H.S. goes a long way to help us provide and improve on the services and support we give our members.

Brian O’Mahony Award

Nominations are open for the ‘Brian O’Mahony Award for outstanding contribution to haemophilia care in Ireland’.

Nominations can be proposed only by members of the Society. Members of the current board or staff cannot be nominated.

We’re owe a huge debt of gratitude to our fantastic team of volunteers & we’re always happy to add to the team!

We’ve a fantastic team of I.H.S. volunteers but we’re always happy to add to this merry band.

Would you be interested in getting involved in volunteering with the I.H.S? We are looking for people of all ages, all backgrounds and all walks of life to volunteer with us at our events!

Hyde Square Apartments
Just to remind you all, that the apartment facility for members in Hyde Square apartments are available to:

▪ People with haemophilia or related bleeding disorders from outside of Dublin, when attending St. James’s Hospital or Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin for treatment, for a hospital appointment or for a review clinic.

▪ An immediate family member, a spouse, a partner and/or child of the person with haemophilia or related bleeding disorder from outside Dublin, when attending St. James’s Hospital or Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin for treatment, for a hospital appointment or for a review clinic, or while a family member is an in-patient.

GDPR is the EU’s new privacy law and affects every organisation using personal data including the Irish Haemophilia Society.

The Early Years
Being able to watch your children explore their world provides one of the great rewards of life. They need the stimulus of exploration, in a secure and loving environment. That means a family without fear. Children constantly sense atmosphere and if their parents are afraid of haemophilia, they will be too.
