That means 37 additional positions focused on getting responders and survivors the care they need, when they need it. This comes on the heels of another major step forward earlier this year to secure long-term funding certainty for the program. Taken together, these wins matter. They mean fewer delays, more access to care, and a system that better supports the people who were there for us on our darkest day. "The World Trade Center Health Program has now been approved to fully staff up to 120 positions, adding 37 critical roles that will directly support the responders and survivors who rely on this care every day. After raising these concerns and pushing for answers, this is real progress for the 9/11 community. I was proud to join Rep. LaLota in this effort. More staff means better access to care, shorter wait times, and stronger support for those still living with the health impacts of that day. This is about making sure those who answered the call on September 11th get the care they have earned." ANDREW IN THE NEWS This Tax Day, Long Island Families Are Finally Seeing Real Relief By Congressman Andrew Garbarino "As Tax Day approaches, families across Long Island are sitting down at their kitchen tables, going through their returns, and asking a simple question: “Am I keeping more of what I earned this year?” For the first time in years, many Long Island families can say, “yes.” Long Island is one of the most expensive places to live in the country. Between property taxes, the cost of raising a family, and everyday expenses, too many hardworking people have felt squeezed from every direction, and for years, the federal tax code only made that burden worse. That’s why I made it a priority to fight for real tax relief that reflects the reality of living here in New York. This year, we’re seeing the results. Long Island families are seeing the impact of quadrupling the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction to $40,000. That change alone is making a big difference for many families who were unfairly penalized simply for living in a high-cost state. I’ve heard directly from constituents seeing that impact. “As a retired officer and Long Island homeowner, the higher SALT deduction is real, meaningful relief. It helps me keep more of what I earned over a lifetime of service and helps make it possible to stay here on Long Island,” said Tim, a Long Island Retiree and lifelong homeowner." Congressional certificates were completed and presented to recognize the hard work and creativity of local students. It was great to see so many young artists showcasing their talent. Annual Blue Mass This morning, Andrew's team participated in the Annual Blue Mass alongside Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo and the Suffolk County Police Department to recognize and pray for those who protect and serve. The Mass, led by Reverend Anthony Iaconis, brought together SCPD leadership and officers from multiple precincts. Andrew's office was happy to collect dozens of cards from local students thanking first responders for the work they do every day. Autism Awareness Event Andrew was proud to join the Long Island community this weekend at the Inclusive Sports Facility in Holbrook for the 4th Annual Long Island Community Autism Awareness Event. It was great to see so many families come together, and Andrew was glad to participate in the event and support efforts that raise awareness and provide resources for families across Long Island. Casework Highlight: Navigating Retirement Benefits Andrew’s office is always ready to step in when constituents run into issues with federal agencies. Recently, a constituent contacted Andrew’s office after experiencing delays with her retirement benefits following her separation from the IRS on September 30, 2025. While her paperwork had been submitted to the Office of Personnel Management, it had not yet been processed, leaving her without the payments she was expecting. Andrew’s team quickly opened a case and submitted an inquiry through the OPM portal. Following that outreach, the status of her case was updated, and she is now finally receiving her payments. Helping constituents navigate federal agencies is one of the most important services our office provides. If you ever need assistance with a federal agency, please don’t hesitate to reach out. WHAT'S NEW IN CONGRESS Meeting with New York-Presbyterian Hospital Andrew met with the CEO of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Brian Donley, this week to discuss healthcare priorities and the continued need to support hospitals serving New Yorkers. This comes as Andrew has been working to help deliver long-overdue FEMA reimbursements for hospitals that stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic. After years of delays, more than $2 billion in reimbursements have now been obligated to hospitals across New York, including major systems that serve Long Island families. These funds are critical to helping hospitals recover costs from the pandemic, keep services strong, and continue delivering high-quality care to the communities that rely on them every day. Andrew will keep pushing to make sure healthcare providers have the resources they need to serve patients across Long Island. Meeting with NASDAQ Leaders This week, Andrew met with Nasdaq leaders to discuss community banking, national security, and the growing role of artificial intelligence in financial markets. As both Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee and a member of the Financial Services Committee, Andrew focused on how emerging technologies intersect with economic security. The conversation centered on making sure innovation continues, while also ensuring strong safeguards are in place to protect financial systems and American consumers. Supporting community banks and maintaining a secure, resilient financial system remains a key priority as these industries continue to evolve. Stopping Scams and Fraud During a Financial Services hearing, Andrew questioned witnesses on efforts to combat fraud in U.S. capital markets and highlighted the role of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. He emphasized that FINRA’s direct access to firm-level data allows for earlier detection of suspicious activity. That kind of oversight is critical in identifying emerging risks before they escalate and protecting investors from increasingly sophisticated scams. Andrew continues to push for stronger oversight and accountability to ensure markets remain fair and secure. Thanks for reading! Do you know someone who might like to receive these updates?
