First hospital vape shops open to help smokers kick habit
Two hospitals in the Midlands have become the first in Britain to open shops selling e-cigarettes to patients and visitors as part of efforts to support smokers switch. The shops were given approval to run from within the hospitals by Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust as part of its mission to deter all patients, visitors and staff from smoking.

Kingsley Wheaton, BAT Chief Marketing Officer, was interviewed on e-cigarettes and the Government’s Prevention Green Paper on the Today programme. He urged the government to invest tobacco taxes into science, education and product development however he declined to comment on the proposal in leaked sections of the Prevention Green Paper for the government to introduce a “polluter pays” levy on tobacco companies.
The interview also covered BAT’s return to F1 sponsorship at the British Grand Prix. With the number of people smoking cigarettes in the UK declining, BAT is increasingly focussing on e-cigarettes the use of which has doubled in the last five years. BAT claims the partnership with the McLaren team at the British Grand Prix focusses only on its “reduced risk product portfolio”.

A new law designed to fund tobacco cessation and make sure all tobacco products are taxed at the same rate has taken effect in Maine. The proposal, by Democratic Representative. Joyce McCreight of Harpswell, is designed to equalise the tax on tobacco products in line with cigarettes at 43 percent of the wholesale sales price. That standard applies to products such as pipe tobacco, cigars and e-cigarette products.

A recent survey of 1,400 respondents has found that one in every three people in the 15-50 year age-group in Delhi National Capital region (NCR) are addicted to smoking, and around half of them are aged between 20 and 30. The survey, 'Understanding Smoking Attitudes in Youth, conducted by Gurgaon-based Aviss Health Foundation also found that many young people report resorting to smoking to cope with work-related stress.
