Being a farmer is a calling, and I’m proud to have made this my life’s work. This is Jamie Davis, the Democrat running for US Senate in Louisiana. Three generations of my family have worked the Delta land that my son and I now own, much of the same acreage that my ancestors worked as sharecroppers. It takes a ton of hard work and calculated risk to do this—but MAGA is making this impossible now. If we were just starting out today, my family and I would never be able to make it. Trump’s Agriculture Secretary, Brooke Rollins, said that “over 80%” of American farmers have already locked in prices for the fertilizer they need to plant right now. This is a boldfaced lie: farmers I know are not prepared for the massive shock coming from the price of fertilizer. Data disproves it too. The Farm Bureau ran a survey just a few days ago that found most farmers report they are completely unprepared for the massive increase in prices for fertilizer and fuel—and over 78% of farmers in the South, including my state of Louisiana, are totally unable to afford what they need to plant their crops right now. If Donald Trump or any of his Administration cronies had ever held a real job, they would know what it’s like to create a budget. To plan ahead and anticipate for both good and bad times. You simply cannot budget for Trump’s recklessness: the Iran war, illegal tariffs, soaring fuel costs…it’s clear that he doesn’t give a damn about farmers. There is a revolt against MAGA underway in farming communities and agricultural states like mine. And things are only just beginning. We are breaking through in areas once considered hostile to Democrats. My background as a farmer, a neighbor, and as someone who works hard to make their living and to help others, is opening doors that otherwise would be shut. We can win this race, but I can’t do this alone. I need your help. We have an incredible opportunity here to build a campaign to demand change in Washington.
