John,

History was made yesterday. With his announcement that he chose Senator Kamala Harris as his vice presidential running mate, Joe Biden reassured our country that the future is bright. Not only is Senator Harris an extremely qualified choice, she also represents an historic moment for our country. Senator Harris is the first Black VP candidate on a major party ticket and the first South Asian American. Kamala knows what it means to break barriers and forge the way for underrepresented communities, and we couldn’t be more excited that she is on the ticket.

Earlier this year Senator Harris took the time to sit down with NCTE Executive Director Mara Keisling to discuss why transgender rights were important to her. Click here to watch the full interview!

We hope that the Biden administration will look to us as a partner to advance the needs of transgender people in our country. It will take a lot of hard work and resources, and we need your help to ensure we can address trans needs on the campaign trail and in the next administration.

Will you contribute $25, or whatever you can today, to help us convey the needs of the trans community to the Biden-Harris administration and the American public?

Senator Harris’ experiences throughout her career have shaped her passion to elevate the needs of marginalized people, including transgender people. When she speaks about the challenges our community faces, like the epidemic of violence particularly against Black trans women, you can see the anguish on her face. This is personal to Senator Harris, and we know as Vice President she will do whatever she can to stymie these terrible attacks.

As District Attorney in San Francisco, Harris established the first of its kind division to directly support transgender people who had been victimized, providing much needed respect, understanding, and a safe place where they would be treated with dignity, showing her commitment to supporting communities like ours. She believes that no one deserves to live burdened with fear of living as their true selves and with unequal access to employment, housing, and healthcare. She will be a true ally to our community in the White House, with a strong commitment to fighting for the rights of the marginalized.

When Senator Harris spoke with Joe Biden yesterday, she said, “I am so ready to go to work.” We cannot wait to see what Joe and Kamala can do. We know they are committed to supporting and advancing the movement to ensure trans people achieve equal rights in all aspects of life.

We look forward to working with the Biden/Harris administration to put in the hard work that is necessary to achieve our goals. If you see what we see in this amazing team, help us become a partner to the new administration by making a contribution today.

Sincerely,
