Public health officials are warning that the Trump administration isn’t prepared to roll out a potential COVID-19 vaccine nationwide.¹ It’s not even clear who’s in charge of oversight. Vaccine distribution can’t be the same disaster that testing for the disease has been.

We don’t even know who’s in charge. Is it the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)? The White House “Operation Warp Speed” task force? The Department of Health and Human Services? Who will have priority to receive the vaccine once it's ready? Will the federal government pay for vaccination, as it did during the H1N1 outbreak under Obama?

The Trump administration should spend more time focusing on the rollout of a vaccine, and less time shoveling cash to Pharma insiders.²

Testing for COVID-19 has been a complete trainwreck. The distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine needs to be more successful.

While taxpayers are lining the coffers of Big Pharma to develop a vaccine, their efforts could go to waste without better implementation of a strategy to distribute the vaccine. We call on Congress to seek testimony from leaders of the CDC, “Operation Warp Speed,” and the Department of Health and Human Services.
