is great for moms.

Friend -

There is great news coming out of Washington this week, including the announcement of maternal health champion Senator Harris as the Vice President nominee on the Democratic ticket!

Monday, Senators Warren, Underwood, Booker, Harris, Gillibrand, and Smith introduced the Maternal Health Pandemic Response Act in order to improve research, data collection, and the provision of respectful care during the pandemic. This vital bill will help confront the structural racism that impacts maternal health outcomes.

We know that COVID-19 disproportionately impacts Black and Hispanic communities.

We also know that Black and Hispanic pregnant women are more likely to be affected by COVID-19. As of August 4, more than 15,000 pregnant women have tested positive for the virus.

But the data ends here. We need more information in order to adequately and effectively treat pregnant people who have contracted COVID-19.

In addition to improving data collection, research, and surveillance related to COVID-19 and pregnancy, the Maternal Health Pandemic Response Act will also:

Ensure the inclusion of pregnant people in vaccine and therapeutic development

Improve public health information and communication for pregnant people - including requiring the Secretary of Labor to issue an emergency temporary standard

Ensure respectful, accountable maternal care, and birth experiences.

If you’d like to help us spread the word about the Maternal Health Pandemic Response Act, we have an advocacy center you can visit to learn the exact steps you can take to make sure this legislation passes [[link removed]].

Thank you for your ongoing support.
