LULAC Says America Is Witnessing History
========================================

Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Congratulates Joe
Biden on Selection of Kamala Harris

Washington, DC - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) today
issued the following statement:

Domingo Garcia - National President
“LULAC congratulates Vice-President Joe Biden on his selection of Kamala Harris
for Vice-President, a woman of color from California, one of our country’s most
diverse states. She knows what Dreamers are facing, the impact COVID-19 is having
on black and brown communities and the contributions immigrants are making to the
economy of the United States. She was willing to speak truth to power during her
campaign and now, she is willing to serve with Mr. Biden who is looking to the
future and the changing demographics in the United States. Color alone should not
define Senator Harris nor any other qualified person in our country, but neither
should it exclude them from being a heartbeat away from the Presidency.”

Sindy Benavides - National Chief Executive Officer
“All women, men, and children in our country should be feeling a sense of pride
today over the selection of Senator Kamala Harris, the first black female ever
selected for a presidential ticket since the founding of our country 244 years
ago. Setting party politics aside, Senator Harris is an experienced, capable
individual whose record in public service demonstrates she is ready to stand with
the candidate running for the nation’s highest office. The fact that she is a
woman of color is equally important because this moment marks a milestone in our
country. It is time to move purposefully forward toward the horizon of hope and
the destiny of our true greatness embracing our diversity and celebrating it as
the true beauty of our collective strength.”
