Oak
Oak Award Recipients
The Oak Awards program, created in 2023 by the Mendota Heights Natural Resources Commission, honors leadership, education, and project efforts that advance the city’s natural resources through three categories: the Acorn Award for youth leadership, the Leaf Award for significant community contributions, and the Canopy Award for lifetime achievement. Congratulations to the following Oak Award recipients:
* The Canopy Award was given to Meghan Bernard, Sustainability Manager for School District 197, for leading initiatives such as the LiveGreen program, waste reduction, energy savings, and converting turf to native prairie
* The Leaf Award went to the Two Rivers High School Live Green Club for student-led efforts in water quality protection, waste reduction, habitat restoration, and civic engagement
* The Acorn Award was awarded to Wes Hendel for his Eagle Scout project creating pollinator habitat and removing invasive species in Ivy Hills Park.
The recipients will be recognized on May 13 at 6:00 p.m. during the Natural Resources Commission meeting at City Hall.

Planning Commission to Review Conditional Use Permit
The City has received a Conditional Use Permit application for a new wireless monopole to be located at Wentworth Park (739 Wentworth Avenue). The next Planning Commission will discuss this application at the April 28 meeting, beginning at 7 p.m.

Call J.R.’s Advanced Recyclers at 651-454-9215 between April 4 and May 5 to schedule a curbside appliance pickup. The cost is $40 for the first appliance and $10 for each additional item, and appliances must be empty, intact, and acceptable for safe recycling.
*Refrigerator and Freezer Recycling*
As a participating Partners in Energy city, Mendota Heights residents can earn a $50 rebate from Xcel Energy when you recycle your old refrigerator or freezer. To qualify, you must be a Minnesota residential electric customer and the appliance must be working, clean, and meet size and age requirements. Athletic Gear Donation Drive
Donate any reusable athletic gear for families in need by dropping them off at any of the following locations between April 20-May 1.
Mendota Heights City Hall (1101 Victoria Curve)
South St. Paul Woog Arena (141 6th Street S)
West St. Paul Dome (1655 Livingston Ave)
West St. Paul Ice Arena (60 Emerson Ave W)
Items are needed for baseball, basketball, hockey, football, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and more.

MCP
Municipal Campus Project
Mendota Heights is planning for a new City Hall and Police Station building. Project details and design will be developed throughout 2026 with anticipated construction beginning in 2027. The new facility is scheduled to open in the fall of 2028.
Ice Cream Social
Upcoming Schematic Design Open House
*Friday May 8; 4-6 p.m.
**City Hall*
The public is invited to provide feedback on schematic design proposals at this open house, held in conjunction with an Ice Cream Social celebrating Police Week.
Schematic designs will show the general layout and site arrangement of the facility. Feedback gathered will help refine the designs and inform more detailed renderings, which will be shared at a future open house.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the existing Police Station and City Hall.

Road Work
MnDot Project: I-35E at Shepard Road
MnDot is replacing the aging I-35E bridge over Shepard Rd. near downtown St. Paul, which is near the end of its service life. Motorists can expect ramp closures on I-35E and Hwy 5/West 7th St. and lane closures during construction.

Residents are invited to join the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) at the Bloomington City Hall, 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington, April 22, 2026, at 6:00 PM for the MSP Spring Listening Session. The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) Noise Oversight Committee (NOC) sponsors quarterly meetings for citizens to allow for an engaging, two-way dialogue between the public and the MAC committee tasked with addressing MSP aviation topics.

MMCD
Mosquito Control
The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD) began its 2026 field season on April 13, with staff monitoring and treating mosquito populations across the metro area; treatments, including possible helicopter applications, are expected around April 20 depending on weather. Residents may see crews conducting surveillance and larval control in wetlands and neighborhoods, and MMCD expects an average season with higher cattail mosquito activity in early July, noting that all treatments are tested and safe for people, pets, and wildlife.
