Indivisibles,
We can’t overstate the [ [link removed] ]importance of the United States Postal Service:
they deliver 48% of the world’s mail and reach every address in America --
even getting mail out to military and diplomatic posts in 67 countries
abroad. They deliver letters to our families, monthly social security
checks to the elderly, and prescriptions to veterans. Another heavy weight
carried by the Postal Service? Mail-in ballots.
You’ve probably heard Trump bash the validity of mail-in voting (one of
his favorite pastimes). Now, he's escalating his rhetoric by threatening
to defund USPS, who will be a critical part of the administration of this
election.
Trump knows this partisan divide works in his favor ahead of November 3
so he's refusing to fund USPS to ensure ballots don’t arrive on time and
aren’t ready to be counted. His most recent executive order makes no
mention of securing the election he claims is so vulnerable, and his
Postmaster General’s strategy is to make operations even [ [link removed] ]slower and
more costly. But don’t just take it from us:
[ [link removed] ][IMG]Even Senator and future Vice President Kamala Harris wants you to
pay attention to the Postal Service.
Here’s what you can do if, like Kamala (our next Vice President), you’re
worried about Trump attempting to suppress votes from Democrats and
threatening the integrity of our democracy:
* [ [link removed] ]Call your Senators to demand they pass the Heroes Act with $25
billion in USPS funding and $3.6 billion in election funding. The
Democrats passed the Heroes Act in the House and now it’s time for the
Senate to follow suit. Congress has a responsibility to act NOW and
pass the Heroes Act without watering it down. For more information on
the Heroes Act and more details on Trump’s executive action, check out
our [ [link removed] ]explainer where we break down the package and how it will
support vulnerable families during these times.
* [ [link removed] ]Join us for our next Week of Action during the Democratic National
Convention (August 17-23). By signing up to phonebank, textbank, and
write letters, you can reach voters directly. Keep people informed and
motivated to drive turnout in November!
* [ [link removed] ]Donate to support our work and make sure we win on election day.
This is bigger than just beating Trump: our fight for the Postal
Service is an integral part of ensuring we have fair elections. We
have so much to do ahead of November 3, and we can’t do it without
your support.
We will keep fighting for the systems that keep our democracy alive. Help
us tell Trump we want every vote counted.
In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
