Folks,

I’m truly touched by the stories you’ve shared with me over the past day about your health care experiences.

This one from Marie on the Mississippi Coast really spoke to me:

“I am a 78-year-old white female with exceptionally good health. But last year… I developed severe edema and couldn't walk for a few days.

Because I have Medicare and Blue Cross/Shield I was able to get all the care I needed. But I know that someone without my resources would have likely died. Money should not determine if they live or die from a curable illness.

I agree with Marie. Your stories, like my own, further go to show just how important it is that we make health care more accessible and affordable for everyone here in Mississippi, and it starts with expanding Medicaid.

Several hold-out states – most recently our neighbors in Oklahoma and Missouri – have expanded Medicaid and implemented policies to bolster their rural hospitals and make health care more affordable. Mississippi still hasn’t done that.

Expanding Medicaid would give health care coverage to 210,000 Mississippians and lower costs for many more who already have insurance. But Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith continues to stand in the way of Medicaid expansion, even as it remains the fiscally responsible choice. We shouldn't be left behind because of partisan political games.

If you believe it’s time to finally expand Medicaid, support rural hospitals, and make health care affordable and accessible for every Mississippian, pitch in whatever you can to support my campaign today. Let’s get it done together:

Right now, Mississippi is last in health outcomes, but together, we can move Mississippi forward and create a health care system that supports us all.
